All of us have defining moments in our lives. Defining moments are occasions when your choices will change the course of your future: accepting God’s grace in Jesus, walking down the aisle and taking vows with your spouse, watching the birth of your child, joining a body of believers who have chosen to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We are excited that you are interested in visiting with us. Christ Church is a place of acceptance where you can come as you are, dress comfortably, and encounter the God of second chances – a place where we can be real with each other and with God.
Christ Church is one church with three campuses located in the Mt. View, Statesville, and St. Stephens area of North Carolina. All three campuses offer exciting weekend services with relevant messages to encourage the entire family. A Brief History of Christ Church Christ Church began in May of 1991, a new congregation called New Hickory Mission Church, meeting in Pastor Dana McKim’s living room. In May of 1992, as attendance grew, the church was renamed Christ United Methodist Church and began meeting at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. View. In March of 1996, members worked hard to renovate a store front on Hwy. 127 to meet the current needs of active worshippers, moved in, and began reaching out to the surrounding community. In June, 1998, Charles Kyker became Lead Pastor. Two themes emerge as Charles shares his vision – reaching thousands of unchurched people and a prayer tower as a beacon of hope to the community. In April of 2000, people pledge over $600,000 for a new facility to meet the needs for more space – because unchurched people matter to God and they matter to Christ Church. As attendance increases, In November of 2001, construction began for a new worship center on Zion Church Road in Mt. View. In January of 2003, with attendance maxing out at 515 at the storefront location, Christ Church moves to a new facility on Zion Church Road, complete with a prayer tower offering beacon of hope to the community so that more people may know Christ and God’s radical, amazing grace. Christ Church is blessed with God’s provision to continue to reach thousands of unchurched people. After attendance more than doubles by December of 2004 in our new facility, Christ Church begins construction on a new Community Center building where worship will be held so thousands may be reached for Christ.
In January of 2005, our second campus is born after merging with Hope UMC in Statesville. New life is brought to a congregation who would not lose hope in God and His plan for them. Eric Morphis arrived in the summer of 2005 to become Campus Pastor for the Statesville campus growing that location to 125 by year end. In January of 2006, the new Community Center building is complete in Mt. View and worship attendance increases to over 1,500 at that campus by the end of the year. Our vision of reaching people in NE Hickory comes to reality in October of 2006. With our St. Stephens Campus Pastor, Tom Mabry joining in the vision, attendance grows to over 250 by the end of 2006 – in just three months! By early 2007, Christ Church reaches over 2,000 in attendance (3 campus total) seeing our vision become a reality of reaching thousands of unchurched people for Jesus Christ. This is just the beginning. Christ Church is passionate about doing whatever it takes to reach people for Christ. If there is one person without a church home in the community, Christ Church will always be too small!
